Meet Leo Jensen


The Principal of Leo Jensen Consulting is Leo Jensen.  Leo has a diverse set of skills and qualifications including:

•    Master of Science in Environmental Management
•    Bachelor of Urban & Regional Planning (Honours)
•    Certificate IV in Workplace Training & Assessment
•    Certified Practising Planner (CPP) (Planning Institute Australia)

Leo has held executive level positions in a number of local government authorities including Rockhampton City Council, Caboolture Shire Council, Moreton Bay Regional Council and Lockyer Valley Regional Council.  He has also held senior planning roles at Gold Coast City Council.

Leo has extensive experience in leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams, both small and large; project management, and also more specifically in development assessment, strategic land use planning, environmental planning, community engagement and community development.

Leo’s experience in a diverse range of innovative, leading edge urban and regional, consultation and environmental planning related projects provides an excellent foundation in a wide range of land use and environmental planning challenges at a local and regional level, and providing quality planning advice and counsel to clients.

Leo is well respected in the planning profession, being actively involved with the Planning Institute Australia for over two decades.  He is a past PIA Queensland President, and National PIA Councillor.  He is a nationally accredited Certified Practising Planner (CPP), and IAP2 certified.  In November 2013, Leo was recognised by his planning peers and was elevated to Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia.

Leo possesses a passion for leading teams and ensuring he gets the best out of people through leadership, ongoing communication, support strategies and encouraging an innovative and fun workplace.  Leo has led and implemented a number of change programs in response to ongoing local government reforms and amalgamations.

His engaging leadership style and management skills were recognised when he was awarded the LGMA Qld Young Manager of the Year Award for Leadership and Management Excellence in 2008.  

Leo is an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and Member of the Local Government Managers Australia.  He is a member of the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Faculty of Arts and Business (Planning) Advisory Committee.
